GC Services is currently seeking motivated individuals for an Assistant Controller at our Houston, TX office.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee the application of accounting principles and practices, including general ledger, accounts payable, certain client invoicing, financial reports, and audit functions.
Establish and review existing policies and procedures that enhance controls, streamline operations, safeguard assets and reduce expenses.
Analyze data in preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports.
Coordinate delivery of information to support tax filing processes.
Effective communication skills to facilitate discussions with the various levels management and operations.
Strong problem solving abilities including identifying, evaluating, researching and proposing alternatives to financial, accounting, system, process or other business related issues.
Lead, manage, mentor and develop a diverse group to maximize each team member’s potential and provide advancement opportunities to reach career objectives, while ensuring day-to-day operations meet organizational expectations.
Direct Supervision of accounts payable and general ledger managers and manual invoice clerks.
Indirect supervision and oversight of accounts payable clerks and analyst, and general ledger staff accountants.
Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
Certified Public Accountant required.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting and control, ideally in a medium to large sized company.
3+ years demonstrated experience leading a professional accounting staff.
Experience in accounting for international business units is a plus.
Above average Microsoft Office Suite skills.
A well organized and self-directed business professional, who is collaborative and a strong team player.
Proven leadership, management and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to mentor management team and staff.
Demonstrated management skills coupled with a “hands-on” approach is essential.
Superior written and verbal communication skills.
Technically adept in all areas of accounting and financial management, including consolidations, management reporting, financial analysis, and compliance with US and certain International GAAP.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Maintenance of financial and organizational confidentiality is essential.
Ability to consistently manage teams to meet tight deadlines.
