Job Summary:  To provide prompt, courteous delivery and pick up service to local customers. To work and operate vehicles and equipment in a safe manner at all times. To count, load, and secure customers freight properly to avoid loss due to damage.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Safety
    To operate vehicles using defensive driving methods at all times (SMITH System).
    To work using prescribed safe work methods at all times.
    To report any safety issues immediately to the safety and maintenance departments.
    To immediately report all injuries / accidents to the safety department.
  2. Regulatory
    To pre and post trip all equipment daily as required.
    To prepare a daily vehicle inspection report as required.
    To obey hours of service regulations as required
    To notify safety of any citations, suspensions, and revocations as required.
  3. Claims
    To verify count of freight at all pick-ups when possible.
    To inspect all freight for satisfactory packaging and condition.
    To report and note any exceptions immediately.
    To inspect all BOL’s for completeness and accuracy or additional documentation prior to signing and accepting the shipment(s).
    To sign all BOL’s as required (skids and pieces).
    To load and secure freight to protect against damage in transit.
    To secure freight and cab area against theft or tampering at all times
  4. General
    To follow company policies and procedures.
    To update dispatch and dispatch computer system continuously as work is performed.
    To treat all customers with courtesy and respect.
    To maintain paperwork as required.
    To keep cab areas clean and free of trash.
  5. Physical Requirements
    Ability to lift up to 75 pounds repeatedly.
    Ability to climb in and out of trailer / cab as required.
    Ability to stoop / squat as needed to complete vehicle inspections.
    Ability to crank landing gear on trailers up or down.
    Ability to sit for long periods and withstand road surface impacts.
    Able to meet all federal physical requirements and obtain a DOT medical card.

Credentials and Experience

23 years of age.
Class A CDL with Hazmat/Tanker Endorsement.
Minimum of 1 year of LTL experience.
Knowledge of the greater Chicago and Milwaukee markets.
Clear MVR
Able to pass pre-employment physical / drug screen.
Able to pass pre-employment road test.
